So, I’m making good progress – I scheduled my EA exam for next Thursday! I was originally shooting for early July. That would have given me 2 steady months of studying (aside from school and work), but I am taking a busier than normal course load this summer (school starts next week). So, I will have little to no time to finish up studying until early August. I decided that trying to take the exam ASAP was the best course of action.
I made it through all of the software questions last week and started on the online review questions this past week. I hope to finish up the online questions this weekend, and then I will do a final review of my notes up until my exam on Thursday. While reviewing the book, I broke down the outline provided by Gleim in each study unit to just headings. That way, when I do my final review, I will review my own bare bones outline and see how much information I can remember about that particular topic. Although I will have about 3 weeks less of studying than I had planned, I also feel like I am at a point where I know the topics pretty well. I am not sure I will ever feel 100% prepared – it’s the perfectionist in me that was holding me back from taking the plunge to register for the exam!
When I was originally doing the software questions, I went in order (study unit by study unit, 1-13). But now I am mixing it up and doing the study units out of numerical order when doing the online questions. I got very wrapped up in the details when answering the software questions (i.e., AGI limits, carryover years, etc.). However, I don’t want to lose sight of how all of the information in the book fits together. I remember that when I was taking the EA 3 Exam, my studying was very detail oriented. So when a seemingly easy question came up on the exam, I would often second guess myself because I buried myself in all of the small details (not to say they aren’t important) and would sometimes breeze over the easier stuff. I just don’t want to miss out on correctly answering the easy questions on the exam. There is a little under a week left…I can do this!
