Well, this has been a rough week on the study plan. My computer at work went down, and I spent two days last week on the phone with technical support. I also had commitments this weekend for a wedding and a baseball game with the family. I have not been able to carve out the time to maintain my study plan of 3-4 study units a week. After just a few weeks into the plan, I already feel discouraged and off track. I need to get busy and get to work if I want to get this test passed before the new tax season.

When I do study, I am amazed at how much I don’t know about taxes! I would have thought that after eight years of working for the Department of Revenue, I would perform better on the multiple-choice tests. It has really been discouraging to take these and get such low scores. I am amazed at how much of a crutch the professional accounting software is for me. The software does so much for you that the knowledge just isn’t there like it would be if you had to prepare paper returns without the software. I can tell that I will be a much better preparer for the effort it will take to pass the EA exam, and my clients will definitely be the beneficiaries of this undertaking.

I have a few days off in the coming week, so that will give me a chance to spend some time catching up. I have learned a lot already and have had a few appointments with clients where I was able to use some of my new knowledge during the meeting. I am excited to keep learning and applying the knowledge for the betterment of my clients’ tax positions.

Good luck studying this week!
