Notice to Schedule Expiring

October 11, 2012, by GleimBlog No comments yet

Written By Guest Blogger Oprah M.

Today I decided to print my Notice to Schedule and realized that the latest I can take the exam is the first week of October. So I’m sitting here trying to figure out how to get everything finished for each study unit along with a final review. I figure since I paid for the test and NASBA doesn’t give refunds that I would go ahead and take it. I scheduled the latest time I could get in October.

Once I found out my testing time, it wasn’t a hard decision to continue. I have completed up to Study Unit 12 so I have eight more to go. For the next two weeks I took some vacation days so that I could study. I feel like I let myself down by not knowing my time was about to expire.

Right now, multiple-choice questions have become my savior. I’m using the Gleim software I downloaded to my computer for which I don’t need internet access to use. I’ll definitely have to start doing more Gleim simulations to get comfortable and teach myself how to stay within the allotted time. I have been studying 2-3 hours a day instead of just one hour per day. Carrying flash cards around has become another good way for me to study. When something doesn’t require too much of my attention, I review my flashcards. I created the flashcards from the Gleim AUD review book so that I wouldn’t need to always carry a book to study. Gleim has provided me with all my self-study CPA AUD review materials needed and has also assigned me a personal counselor to help me answer any questions or problems I may have. It all comes down to the next two weeks.

Wish me luck

Final Review for AUD for Guest Blogger John E.

July 5, 2012, by GleimBlog No comments yet

Written By Guest Blogger John E.

Hello everyone. Week four is finally here. By Tuesday, I will have finished my preliminary review of all twenty study units from the Gleim AUD textbook. Over four weeks, that is an average of five study units completed each week. I must also add that I took roughly four days off for a weekend getaway and the occasional day off. I don’t think I could bear studying 3-4 hours each day for seven days a week. For weeks five and six, I will be completing a final comprehensive review of everything I have covered since day one.

I have neglected to schedule the AUD section. I will have to jump on that this week as soon as possible. I am hoping to sit for the exam by the second week of July. My scores are looking strong (ranging 70-90). I have started using the book a little more than normal to help me out with the fundamental concepts in audit. My strategy thus far hasn’t been about reading the AUD book cover to cover. My regiment has consisted of going through each study unit and taking as many multiple-choice exams as possible. I prefer to study multiple-choice questions in test mode, since it most closely simulates the exam. I am taking as many practice exams as possible at twenty questions each. Once I score a minimum of 75% or better, I move on to the next study unit. After completing each practice exam, I review each question and answer regardless of whether I answered correctly or incorrectly. I pay close attention to the answers provided by the Gleim Test Prep software.

I will check back soon. Happy studies!

Receiving My Notice to Schedule for the CPA Exam!

February 5, 2012, by GleimBlog No comments yet

The following post is from guest blogger David G.

Great news today!  I have been approved to sit for the CPA examination!  When my wife checked the mail today, I had a letter from the Sate of Florida and I knew immediately what was contained in it, but I was not sure if it was good news or bad news.  The most amazing and possibly the most worrisome part of the response was that I had only mailed my application last Saturday.  So, for an official response to be delivered by the postal system so quickly led me to believe that maybe I might have to redo something or take more classes, but when I opened it, on the first line I read, Congratulation, you are approved to sit for the CPA examination.  Wow!  I have been back in school for over two years now working for this opportunity and it is finally at my doorstep.

Now it’s time to schedule the exam and set my timeline.  I will spend the next couple of days working with the family concerning the open times available for me to schedule my audit portion of the CPA exam.  I am looking at possibly the end of April as a good time, but I’ll choose the day this week and commit to it.  It’s important for me to know for sure that there is nothing on anyone’s plate that would be a conflict, because this is just too big to have any scheduling issues over.

I have been studying all week and it seems to be going well.  I work all day and come home, have dinner and then relax with the Gleim CPA Review book and study for a couple of hours.  It is nice to study while my wife is studying and it’s dark outside, because I don’t feel like I’m missing anything yet.  I listened to some of the audio portions of the review today while taking my oldest son to USF to attend Stampede for Success.  It’s good to be able to hear the review material when I can’t sit down to read it.  Wish I had started using the audio part before now.
